Grasmaster

For a large part the production of roughage on your own dairy farm determines the farm profits. Countless studies have time and again proven the importance of maximum yield of dry matter from your own farm. Fertilizing grassland plays an important part in this. The most important challenge for the coming years will be to increase the grassland production despite the stricter mineral regulation.

Using slurry, decreasing losses, applying the correct forms of nitrogen, attention to all macro and mineral nutrients and improving the soil’s natural fertility are important aspects for increasing production. Every year CropSolutions spends a sizeable budget on tests and research to gain more knowledge on grassland production on all types of soil. Besides using this knowledge in our advice, we also use it to optimise the composition of our fertilizers.

Grasmaster fertilizers are formulated according to the latest requirements and knowledge on grassland production. A different formula has been developed for all types of soil and farming methods. Other important components beside the correct form of nitrogen, are sulphur, sodium en selenium. In some fertilizers the correct amount of magnesium, copper and cobalt are added as well.

Features and Advantages

The main component in Grasmaster fertilizers with a minimum of 20% is nitrogen in the form of ammonium or nitrate. The composition is therefore similar to that of calcium ammonium nitrate, which is still the most effective nitrogen fertilizer for grassland. Besides fertilizers with nitrogen, there are three grasmaster fertilizers that also contain sulphur, sodium and selenium respectively.
Sulphur is an element that is suitable for every type of soil before the first cut. The deposition of sulphur from the air has decreased throughout the country to such an extent that an additional dose in early spring will improve the yield on every soil. A dose of sulphur will not only improve the production of dry matter, it will also improve the nutritional value.
Sodium in the grass improves absorption by the cow. Because the grass is tastier the cows can take in an extra few kilos of dry matter a day. The content of sodium in the grass is lower on sandy soils (washes away), with high doses of fertilizer (antagonism with potash) and in later cuts.
Selenium improves the live stock’s fertility. Organic selenium (through grass) is absorbed better and gives higher blood levels than selenium in forage. The selenate form used in Grasmaster is the most effective form of selenium.

The Grasmasters Uniek (unique), Start, Optimaal (optimal) en Vruchtbaar (fertility) all contain magnesium. Magnesium is often pushed aside by potash near the root. A low pH also causes decreased absorption of magnesium. The fertilizer Magnesamon is used less and less, which caused supply to decrease and the MgO levels in the soil are dropping.
Grasmaster Optimaal contains all the elements mentioned above.
Grasmaster Vruchtbaar also contains copper and cobalt.
Lack in copper most often occurs on sandy soils. The effect of fertilizations is often short lived.
Fertilization with cobalt has a good influence on all types of soil for several cuts.
Fertilization with copper and cobalt help maintain the health of your livestock. Extensive analysis of the soil and/or pasture indisputably proves the necessity.

Advice

First and second cut:
For sandy soils it is advised to use Grasmaster Optimaal or Vruchtbaar for the first and second cuts. Grasmaster Start or KAS Sulphur will do very well for clay soils.

Third and next cuts: Simply using nitrogen will do in most cases. KAS is still the most effective fertilizer for this application.

For soils with sufficient or high levels of selenium, start with Grasmaster Uniek or KAS Sulphur for the first cut and use Grasmaster Natrium (sodium) or Kas for the next cuts.
